In a sense, Edw. C. Levy, who founded our
company, was a man ahead of his time. Long before "the environment" became a
popular and major political issue, Mr. Levy understood the importance of protecting the
world's natural resources. He understood the finite nature of the earth's products.
He understood their value. He understood the instinct to take them for granted and
the dangers of exploiting them.

Thus, when he founded Edw. C. Levy Co., he established a culture that
emphasized the conservation of natural resources. He worked hard to assure that everyone
in the organization understood how important the earth's natural resources are - the
foundation of the company's business - and to use them wisely and carefully. His
concerns led to Edw. C. Levy Co. becoming one of the largest recyclers not only in the
United States, but also in Australia and Thailand. Slag, metallics, asphalt, and fly
ash are all part of major recycling processes at Edw. C. Levy Co., saving valuable
resources while producing new products.
His son, Ed Levy Jr. who now heads the company, has continued and
reinforced his father's philosophy. "My father instilled in all of us a respect
for the environment," said Ed Levy Jr. "From recycling to land reclamation
to washing wheels on our trucks, we do all we can to protect the environment and we're
proud to be a responsible corporate citizen in the communities in which we operate.
My father's philosophy has become more and more important. He was a pioneer in the
concept of recycling, and his foresight demonstrated that business can be profitable while
responding to society's concerns as well."
At Edw. C. Levy Co., the concept of "frugality" in using
the earth's resources has not been compromised or diminished. It remains as
important today as it was in 1918 when our founder began.
