Waste Management
The
rapid industrial and urban development of Thailand over recent years
has introduced considerable benefits to the kingdom, most
importantly in terms of employment and economic growth.
However, such expeditious development has also resulted in an
increasing need to address issues such as treatment of waste
materials and preservation of natural resources.
Chonburi Steel Mill Services Ltd. (CSMS)
and Siam Steel Mill Services Ltd. (SSMS) both unite these concerns
in their slag recovery and recycling program. Scrap steel and
slag are by-products from the steel manufacturing industry which,
when processed, can be sold back to the mills and re-used or applied
to many forms of construction. Most notably, slag is
employed in the construction of asphaltic road
paving, road sub-base material, lay-down and hard storage
areas. This slag aggregate has similar characteristics to
natural aggregates, and its use plays a valuable part in reducing
the depletion of the earth's natural resources.
Both CSMS and SSMS are separate joint
ventures between the Edw. C. Levy Group (USA) and two prominent Thai
steel manufacturing companies. Fully operational in Thailand
since 1996, the two companies operate a total of eight sites in
Thailand, in the Bangkok, Saraburi, Chonburi and Rayong
regions. CSMS and SSMS recently achieved ISO
9002 certification from the Management System Certification
Institution (MASCI), in recognition of their strict process and
quality control programs. |
