Description:   A dense graded aggregate, produced by crushing and screening Steel Furnace Slag.  A light gray to black aggregate formed simultaneously with the production of steel in a steel furnace.  The particles are sized from 3/8” (16.0mm) to zero (dust).

Steel Furnace Slag is an approved material for use in Michigan Department of Transportation (M•DOT) projects as an asphaltic concrete aggregate, as detailed in the MDOT  “1996 Standard Specifications for Construction”, section 902.  ASP#9 Steel Furnace Slag is produced to commercial requirements, typical particle size distribution is as follows;

General Usage Guide:  
  
The ASP#9 Steel Furnace Slag should be blended into the hot mix asphalt mixture along with other coarse and fine aggregates, asphalt cement and any other special additives in the proportions detailed in the mix design.
