Fulton Mill Service - Visibly Safer

Shawn Knapp, operator at Fulton Mill Service, was asked to work at a recent Cross Country meet in Ohio and Shawn was put in charge of parking cars for the guests attending. Shawn asked if there were any hi-visibility vests available so that people like himself could reduce the risk of injury while parking cars. Following the request the Athletic Director mentioned that the vests tended to grow legs and between the X-Country team practices and parking for other events the high school struggled to keep vests available. Shawn asked around and found that when training, the local Cross Country runners were concerned that cars may or may not have ample time to react to them being on the road due to low visibility early in the morning or at dusk.

Shawn knew the importance of the right PPE for safety. Putting his safety training to work, Shawn asked Fulton Mill Service to help. Thanks to Shawn, Fulton Mill Service donated 12 hi-visibility, lightweight vests to the local Cross Country team to better ensure that all team members are more visible and safer when training.

  • Total Recordable Incident Rate vs. the Industry National Average

  • Severity Rate (measuring the lost time incident severity in lost days)

New Calumite Website

Edw. C. Levy Co. is pleased to announce the launch of a new website highlighting our Calumite slag products: calumitellc.com.

Calumite slag is used as a raw material in all types of soda-lime silica glasses. As a melting and refining aid, it reduces furnace energy consumption, reduces NOx and CO2 emissions, and improves final glass quality.

Revisit the Benefits of Calumite

When properly formulated into a glass batch, Calumite slag can substantially lower glass furnace melting temperatures permitting more glass to be melted at essentially the same temperature. As the iron making process has changed and improved, sulphur inputs have been reduced, which over time has slightly decreased the available sulphides in the blast furnace slags. This has allowed some users to increase their Calumite Slag use and improve CO2 reductions, fuel savings and furnace productivities. To read more about the need to revisit Calumite slag as an essential raw material in the manufacture of container and float glass, see the Ross, Myers and Abraham article in Glass International.

Duraberm

Always looking for new products for our customers, Levy offers Duraberm - a unique road base material.

Many rural roads and parking lots are made up of compacted sand and gravel. During the spring and rainy seasons these surfaces have a tendency to become muddy and sometimes impassable. Duraberm is specially designed to fix and repair these gravel roadways, parking lots and farm lanes.

Duraberm is a blend of electric arc furnace (EAF) slags generated at the steel mill. The blend strengthens and stabilizes roadways through both mechanical and chemical actions as it is exposed to the elements. Once placed, watered and rolled, Duraberm produces a hard and durable roadway. Duraberm performs extremely well and has less dust than many other products.

With assistance from Levy Sales on the proper use and the best application for the product, public and county highway departments are eagerly using Duraberm for roadways, parking lots, equipment yards, farm roads and driveways. Contact Levy Sales for more information about our Duraberm products.
