Steel Furnace Slag Information

Steel furnace slag is a valuable, high quality product used in construction.  In some areas this material is marketed under the name "Furnastone™".  Crushed and screened to required gradations, steel furnace slag is also used where its unique qualities assure highest performance:
Maximum Durability
Higher Strength
Extreme Hardness

Where is steel furnace slag used?

Aggregate Base: Used as unconfined aggregate base selectively under bituminous concrete paving
Bituminous Concrete: All types of binder, wearing courses, and skid resistant overlays
Rail Ballast:  Used on main lines of major railroads and spur track ballast for plant service

Specialty Applications: Cement manufacture
Soil conditioning
Rip-rap protection

Steel furnace slags are limited to applications in which possible slight expansive characteristics would not be objectionable.  Use in bases or structural fill may require careful selection, processing and aging.
